FAQ for Lawyers
Q1. Can my assistant/secretary submit an interview request on my behalf?
A1. Yes, your assistant/secretary may submit an interview request, on your behalf, using his/her Singpass. However he/she will need to furnish all the necessary details of the main interviewer (ie the lawyer) to facilitate the processing of the interview request.
   
Q2. Can my assistant/secretary view the status of the interview request, which he/she submitted on my behalf?
A2. Yes, your assistant/secretary will be able to view the status of the submitted request. You can also view the status of request submitted on your behalf by your assistant/secretary.
   
Q3. Do I need to know where the inmate is accommodated in before submitting the interview request?
A3. With the knowledge of the inmate’s NRIC/FIN Number and Inmate Number, you will be able to check the whereabouts of the inmate and submit an interview request via the application.
   
Q4. How long is each interview timeslot and how many slots can I book for each request?
A4. Each interview timeslot is 30 minutes. You can book up to maximum of 3 timeslots ie 1.5hrs for each request.
   
Q5. How many inmates can I interview each time?
A5. For each interview timeslot of 30 minutes, you can interview up to a maximum of 2 inmates (the inmates must be accommodated in the same institution).
   
Q6. How long does it take to process the interview request?
A6. Please allow 3 working days for the processing of the interview request. You will receive an email notifying you of the status of the submitted request. The email will also serve as the approval letter for you to gain entry into the Institution. Alternatively, you can view the status of the request and print out the approval letter by logging into the Prisons Booking System after 3 working days.
   
Q7. How many days in advance must I submit the interview request?
A7. All interview requests must be forwarded to the Prison Authorities, via the Prisons Booking System for approval, at least 3 working days before the day of the requested interview. For urgent request ie less than 3 working days, please submit your request via faxes, stating the reasons for the urgency of the request. Request will be subjected to the approval of the Head of Institution.
   
Q8. Can I bring along any assistants/companions for the interview?
How many assistants/companions can I bring along for the interview?
A8. Yes, you can bring along your assistants/companions, up to a maximum of 3 persons, for the interview. However, please submit their NRIC/FIN Numbers and other relevant information, in your interview application. Please note that any persons accompanying the interviewer will not be allowed to be present at the interview if he/she is related to the inmate.
   
Q9. Can I bring in writing materials?
A9. You can bring in writing materials such as pens, pencils, paper and relevant files, into the Institution.
   
Q10. I have a piece of document for the inmate to sign. Can I bring the document along for the interview?
A10. Yes, you can bring in the documents for the inmate to sign during the interview. Please note that all documents that require the inmate’s signature must be brought to the attention of the Prison Authorities before the inmate is allowed to sign them.
   
Q11. Must I bring along an approval letter to gain entry into the institution on the day of the scheduled interview?
A11. Yes, you must bring along the approval letter (ie the email which is sent to you upon the confirmation of your request). Alternatively you can print out the approval letter from the Prisons Booking System. Interviewers must bring along their identity cards as proof of their identities.
   
Q12. If I need to make any changes/cancellation to the approved interview, what should I do?
A12. You need to inform the respective institution’s Registry Officer of any changes/cancellation of the approved interview, via phone and followed by a faxed request of the changes.
   
Q13. Can I bring in books and magazines for the inmate?
A13. No. Inmate’s visitors will be allowed to enter these reading materials (eg. books and magazines) during their visit with the inmate.
   
Q14. Can the inmate’s family members accompany the lawyer for the interview?
A14. Inmate’s family members will be notified by the Prison Authorities to come for their visit with the inmate.
   
Q15. What if the main interviewer cannot turn up for the interview, must we cancel the interview or can another lawyer conduct the interview?
A15. If the main interviewer cannot turn up for the interview, the interview may still be granted if one of the stated companions (who have been approved to attend the interview) is a practicing lawyer.
   
Q16. What should I do if I encounter any difficulties/problems when submitting an interview request via the Prisons Booking System?
A16. You may wish to contact the respective Records and Reception Officers of the institutions for further enquiry. Please click here for the list of contact numbers for the institutions. (Institution’s RRO contact number will be provided)

Q17. I do not have the inmate number. How can I get it?
A17. You may call Queenstown Remand Centre's Visit Hotline at 1800 471 8708 to check for the inmate number.

Q1. Who can submit a request via the Prisons Booking System to interview an inmate?
A1. Any officers from a Government Agency/ Statutory Board, with a valid Singpass, may access and utilise the Prisons Booking System to request for an interview with inmate, for official purposes. However the approval letter which must be produced on the day of the interview to gain access to the institution must be signed by a Senior Officer of a rank equivalent to an Assistant Superintendent of Police/ Head of Section/Unit.

A10. You need to inform the respective institution’s Registry Office of any changes/cancellation of the approved interview, via phone and followed by a faxed request of the changes.
   
Q11. What if the main interviewer cannot turn up for the interview, must we cancel the interview or can another officer conduct the interview?
A11. If the main interviewer cannot turn up for the interview, the interview may still be granted if one of the stated companions (who have been approved to attend the interview) is an authorised government officer.
   
Q12. Can I bring in equipment eg. lap-top, camera, DNA Test-Kits, to facilitate the interview/investigation?
A12. You may bring in equipment that will facilitate the interview/investigation. However, please indicate the list of equipment that you need to bring into the institution in your interview application.
   
Q13. Can I return the inmate’s property to him during the interview?
A13. Please indicate your request (ie to return the inmate’s property) in your application.
   
Q14. What should I do if I encounter any difficulties/problems when using the Prisons’ Booking System, to file an interview request?
