The Prisons Sports & Recreation Club was formed on 15th February 2001. It amalgamates the previous Prisons Sports Association, Senior Prison Officers’ Club and the Prison Junior Officers’ Club.
A Board of Management headed by Director of Prisons who is assisted by his Deputy Director / Chief of Staff and the 3 Assistant Directors manages the new entity.
The day-to-day running of the Club rests on the Club’s Management Committee which comprises 14 members; 7 of whom are to be appointed by Director Prisons and 7 other members to be constitutionally elected at the Club’s Annual General Meeting.
The structural differences between the Club and its previous entities lie in two main areas:
ipso facto membership to the Cooperatives for all members of the Club thereby entitling them to subscribe to the high returns on their savings as well as very low interest rate personal loans,
sharing of all the benefits of the previous entities thereby bridging the senior-junior rank divide which is no longer the aspiration of today’s professional prison staff.
Our Vision
We shall be a compass for work-life balance, engendering sportsmanship, personal development, and strong family bonds amongst our staff.
We will thus develop gracious, intellectually agile, resilient and passionate Captains of Lives.
Our History
PSA, SPOC, PJOC and the Prisons Thrift & Loan Co-operative Society had played significant roles in the history of Singapore Prison Service.
Each on its own served its noble purpose well. SPOC and PJOC were identified with the respective ranks to bring about professionalism in the Service. Many senior members would still remember the old premises and the good ole days of the clubs.
The Prisons Thrift & Loan Co-operative Society had helped the members to save for the rainy days with very affordable schemes and returns. Though never to have a building of its own, the Society had served the members by being available at all times through its network of hardworking committee members.
PSA had existed for almost 30 years since it was formed in 1973. It had many glorious moments to recall. It was a sports powerhouse in the 70s in judo, hockey and… Today, its archers, shooters and athletes are making headways into the national teams.
It was fitting that in its last effort in hosting the bi-annual Asean Prisons Track & Field Championships in 2000 that it emerged overall champions for the first time in the history of the Championships.
