Senior Prison Officer
- Involved in the planning and charting of direction of the many aspects of the Singapore Prison Service, Senior Prison Officers serve a leadership function within the service. They are expected to take on various roles throughout their career, exposing them to a myriad of challenges that the service has to offer. Senior Prison Officers can be rotated to any of the following job postings in their career.
Foundational Posting
- Housing Unit Officer
The Housing Unit Officer’s role is to maintain discipline and order among the inmates under his charge. He/she may also be involved in the Housing Unit Management System, which includes providing rehabilitative programmes for inmates under their care. The officer has the challenging task of reforming inmates in helping them become useful citizens upon their release. This is a foundational posting all Senior Prison Officers will go through.

- Records and Reception Officer
The Records and Reception Officer will ensure the effective management of inmates' records upon admission, and keeps track of the progress of inmates. He or she works closely with external agencies such as the CARE Network.
- Security & Provost Officer
In charge of ensuring that the overall security of the Singapore Prison Service is maintained at the highest level, the Security & Provost Officer keeps a vigilant mind on the prison's securitization efforts. He or she ensures that there are no breaches of prison security, either from within or by intruders from the outside.
- Staff Work Postings
Senior Prison Officers may also be rotated to staff work positions such as coordination of rehabilitation programmes, contingency planning, corporate services or human resources, etc.

- Personal Supervisor
The Personal Supervisor works together with the Housing Unit Officer to maintain good order and discipline of inmates in the prisons and drug rehabilitation centres. The Personal Supervisor is assigned to oversee a group of inmates. He is required to manage the inmates by engaging them in purposeful and meaningful interactions.
- Workshop Officer
Fulfilling an important role in the rehabilitation of inmates, the Workshop Officer supervises the inmates during work sessions, ensuring their good discipline and order.
Escort Officer
The Assistant Escort Officer will ensure the safe custody of inmates whilst they are outside the prison grounds, i.e. when inmates are required to attend court or referred to the hospital.
- Specialist - SPEAR
Male candidates who are physically very fit, may apply to join us as members of the Singapore Prisons Emergency Action Response (SPEAR) Force. Involved in the challenging role of prison contingencies, the SPEAR Force is prepared to quell any occurrence of riots or fights within the prisons. High-risk escort duties within and outside the prisons also form part of their duties.
Candidates must first undergo selection assessment as a Prison Officer before he can be eligible to undergo training and selection as a SPEAR officer.
Candidates will first need to undergo selection tests and interview as a Prison Officer. Successful candidates who wish to apply for SPEAR will be required to attend a second interview chaired by a panel of SPEAR officers. Successful candidates will have to pass a physical assessment conducted by SPEAR officers.
Candidates will undergo training as a Prison Officer (32 weeks of residential training and 8 weeks OJT). Thereafter candidates will attend a 4-month selection training conducted by SPEAR officers.

Qualification

Applicants with 4 GCE ‘O’ Levels or NITEC (formerly NTC-2) would be considered on a case-by-case basis and would be appointed on 3 years contract if shortlisted for the position.

Home Affairs Senior Executive* (HASE)
Home Affairs Senior Executives (HASEs) are the middle and senior managers of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). Fulfilling their roles in the areas of Human Resource, Finance and Corporate Services, Research and Information, Line Operations and Public Affairs, the HASEs are an integral part of policy decisions and implementation.
HASE
You will provide vital support for executive and policy decisions with critical analysis, formulation and implementation. HASEs will be exposed to a wide variety of work through regular postings to different MHA departments. Besides the Singapore Prison's Service, you could also be assigned in future to one of these other departments under the MHA: Ministry of Home Affairs Headquarters, Singapore Police Force, Singapore Civil Defence Force, Central Narcotics Bureau, and Immigration and Checkpoints Authority.
- Required qualification: Minimum good degree in any discipline from a recognized University.
Minimum B3 grade in 'A' level General Paper (GP) and/or 'O' Level English Language.
HASE (Psychologist)
A Prison Psychologist provides psychological testing and assessment services, and assists in the management of distressed prisoners. You will also play a key role in the rehabilitation of offenders through the development and delivery of specialised treatment programmes like the Special Transformational Environment (STE) for the holistic rehabilitation of young offenders and the 3R treatment programme for sexual offending.
You will also undertake the profiling of psychiatric inmates, young violent offenders and sexual offenders, norming and recidivism study, and studies of organisational culture. Psychologists support the development of staff through specialised training, mental health enhancement workshops and talks, and staff selection assessment.
- Required qualification: Minimum 2nd Upper Honours degree in Psychology from a recognized University.
HASE (Counsellor)
The Counsellor maintains a constant dialogue with inmates to ensure that they are rehabilitated effectively. Providing intensive counselling to inmates, drug addicts and their families, the officer strives for a better understanding of the problems facing the inmates and drug addicts, and is hence better able to offer an appropriate course of action and management. The counsellor will also act on referrals made to social service institutions such as the CARE (Community Action for the Rehabilitation of Ex-Offenders) Network.
- Required qualification: Minimum good degree in Social Work or Psychology from a recognized University.

Management Support Officer (MSO)
Management Support Officers are deployed in different staff units of the Singapore Prison Service to assume various responsibilities. As a MSO, you will be able to use your meticulous organisational and administrative skills to assist in a variety of assignments.
- Required qualification: Diploma from any local polytechnic.
Corporate Support Officer (CSO)
Corporate Support Officers are deployed in the various staff units within the Singapore Prison Service to provide crucial administrative support.
- Full or Partial GCE 'A' Level Certificate;
- Higher National ITE Certificate (Higher NITEC) - previously known as Industrial Technician Certificate (ITC);
- Certificate in Business Studies (CBS);
- National ITE Certificate (NITEC) - previously known as National Technical Certificate Grade 2 (NTC-2);
- Certificate in Office Skills (COS);
- GCE ‘O’ Level Certificate (Minimum 3 'O' level Passes);
- GCE ‘N’ Level Certificate (Minimum 3 'N' level Passes);
