SUPT Shie Yong Lee
(Head Programme, HQ)

"Why did I join prisons? I have been asked that question many times and my answer is always the same. To do good, Yes, to do good. This simply means changing people's lives for the better. It's a tall order but I feel there is a humane side in even the hardest of the hardcores. It is up to me to tap on that."

ASP 2 Doris Lim
(OC Counsellor, Cluster C)

"The diversity of the clients I get to work with over the years had kept me keen and passionate when working in this challenging area of correctional counselling. I feel that counselling has a dual benefit outcome. Facilitating changes in my clients as well as learning more about myself. If asked the miracle question what would I be doing in the next 2 years, its likely that my answer is "still facilitating change in my clients & learning about myself". A big carrot is also the opportunities given to me to undergo valuable training which I could upgrade myself professionally and personally."

RO 1 Aw Kah Hoe
(Housing Unit Officer, KBC)

"Choosing to serve as a prison officer in the Singapore Prison Service has definitely been the right choice for me. Apart from the great satisfaction that I have gained in the process of rehabilitating inmates, there are plenty of opportunities to develop myself."

Chief Warder 2 Koh Chian Ming
(Inspection & Control Officer, SD)

"At first, my family and friends were worried. Will I be safe having to deal with criminals and addicts everyday? Well, I have been around for some years now, and I have not encountered a single life-threatening situation. What I did encounter were occasional greetings from ex-inmates who have made good. Sure I was attracted by the salary and career prospects. But what attracted me most was the chance to turn people's lives around. Not many jobs give you that privilege."

SSgt Norsharifah Bte Omar
(Senior Personal Supervisor, CWP)

"The greatest challenge for me at work is putting on different hats for every different occasion. I play the role of a disciplinarian when I need to maintain order and discipline in my housing unit. On the other hand, I have to play the role of a counselor who listens to their problems and help them find solutions. Knowing what role to play is the greatest challenge for me. Satisfaction is when inmates thank me for what I have done and knowing they have changed for the better. Somehow, I felt that I have made a difference in their lives."

Think you are up to the challenge?
